Thanks TOB. Seems to be OK now. Appears it was a trojan virus that caused the maylay.

Fortunately 95% or so of our pictures are backed up. We only lost about 1000.

Oh, man, Opie. That's tough. Sorry you had to deal with that. At least you had backups, though. I try to have multiple backups on different types of media, like external hard drive and DVD's, just in case, though I have yet to need them.

There is fairly cheap software available to pull deleted photos off media, but it doesn't work for corrupted files...

I feel your pain. I am in the process of shoving discs into my lap top as part of a reinstall made necessary thanks to some programmer who had too much time on his/her hands.

If virus/malware writers would just try out a hammock, they would be too busy modifying, making gear, testing set ups, and enjoying the outdoors to jack with the rest of us electronically.
