I am brand new to hammocking and am about to order a ridgerunner. I was wondering if I could get some opinions about the superfly vs. The winter dream tarp. Which tarp should I get to go with my ridgerunner and why? Thank you for the help!!

I'm also new and wished I went with something larger. At 5' 11'', I rub against a wet rainy tarp every time I get in the hammock.
Mind you, I forget to re-tighten ridgelines and guylines after the nylon stretched and sagged.. Could've been a rookie mistake, but wetting my s shirt before sleeping on a hot, humid summer Texas night isn't fun. Taking my second trip this week..
I think I'd prefer the extra headroom and space to close the doors completely without Ridgerunner modifications anyways. YMMV..
I have the Ridgerunner and went with the SimplyLightDesigns Winter Haven and love it. It provides full coverage and the doors will close albetit a bit tight when the doors are closed. I love Jareds work and from order to having it in hand was three days.

I have a winter palace, winter dream 12, and a superfly. By far the 12 ft. Winter dream with internal pole mod is the best for my ridge runner.

I would reccomend the Winter Dream and right now they are on sale on the UGQ website.
UGQ Winter Dream (or SLD Winter Haven) with double internal pole mod FTW!

The superbly is really popular but that might be predomately gathered end hangers. Some vendors make a specific bridge hammock tarp or offer a larger "custom" size for a little more money. I have a wildernesslogics old man winter with a 13 ft ridge line to accommodate the length between the apex points.
Whatever model/brand, I'd make sure it is at least 13 ft long if used with a bridge.
I was thrown off by the 12-foot ridgeline comment and was trying to remember my most recent and first trip last summer. Thanks for confirming my suspicion that a 13-foot ridgeline fits best.Originally Posted by [email protected]
Funny... I never worry about trying to get the apices of my bridge hammock suspension triangles under my tarp; I just put drip lines on all four catheti and call it good. That not only lets me use a tarp with a shorter ridge line length but also lets me pitch that tarp down lower, closer to my bridge hammock, with just enough clearance for my spreader bars to swing a bit as I enter and exit. Twelve-foot standard-width rectangular tarps (like my latest Cat Tangle DIY) or 12-foot hexes with 30" cutbacks (i.e., about 84" between the side tie-outs, like my UGQ Hanger 12) seem to work well for me over an 80" x 36" DIY bridge without too much bulk or weight.

I have both the SF with external pole mods and WD13 with internal pole mods..
I like the ability to snap the doors closed on my WD13 with my Sparrow slung in it, as compared to staking them closed at the bottom on the SF.. In weather the WD doors work better..
My 13 YO Mancub had been eyeing my Clark NX270 last year, so he is getting that this summer and the SF to sling over the top.
