Woke up in a Hennessy with two squirrels playing on my tarp. One fell off and immediately used my tie out to bug net to suspension to tarp to get back in the game. Have woke up more than once in the woods behind my house with a deer sniffing me and had a raccoon on his tip toes peeking in one time. I tend to envelope myself even in winter because you never know what is cold and looking for warmth.

Amen brother. I was awaken this winter with a bird between my hammock and bottom quilt. Needless to say that fluttering made the mind go a bit crazy at around 3AM. My first thought - Snake. After waking up I had no idea what it was until I reached out and pulled down on the bottom quilt. It was a little sparrow looking to stay warm. It jumped up on the edge of the hammock and then flew off. It did of course leave me with a little white gift

I always use a bug net. Here is one reason why.

I can see Dutch coming out with some stretchy ear covers made with some panty hose material.

I suppose I never should have clicked that link. With that in mind, how have we managed all these years before "modern" amenities and pest control services? I believe there are just as many people who either cowboy camp, camp under a tarp or hammock without a net as those who either use a net or tent. Sounds like a great study for some lucky grad student.

Here in the Midwest, until about late April I won't use a net. I'll use that for the whole summer till the first good frost (in Illinois and Missouri, That could happen 3 times before real fall weather) till it tips under 30 when I start using my overcover.

Besides that, I'm just here for Shug's Story time....

If the boys aren't using a net, there is no bug issue then, right?
