That is a bit of a story. Last year at fall MAHHA I arrived fairly early on Friday morning and while I was setting up, I went over to the dumpster to throw out my trash from backpacking in, and when I opened the door to the dumpster there was a entire tent thrown out. I glanced at it and saw it was a Big Agnes tent (not cheap) and noticed the nice poles. I had no desire to try to clean out a tent, but the poles were fine, so I pulled them out and found that one pole had broken at the end (lost about 4" after I trimmed it at home). Dutch sells the poles too, for those that aren't as lucky as me.

Nice DIY mod you've done there

I put tie-outs on my winter tarp I made but as of yet have not done a pole mod of any kind.
So I suppose my question is what's the difference between doing this type of pole mod to a "over the ridgeline" pole mod?
It appears to me that this way really opens it up more but I don't know. It looks great though.
Two main differences I can see. An over-the-ridgeline pole mod requires adding pull-outs to the middle of the tarp (which would need to be sealed), while this way doesn't and opens up the whole tarp instead of just from a couple central points. Only downside I can see is the need for much longer poles.

The arrow pole mod works!!!! These were two 30" arrows I had laying arrive with a 8-32 piece of threaded rod and a nylon washer in between with just a touch of CA glue to hold it so you don't lose it. Need to make better tie outs now that I know it works.
