AHE Chain Link and Cinch Buckle Review

The "tree" end of the webbing has a loop that is sewen into it. My plan is to just wrappit around the tree a few times pull the working end/buckle through the loop and toward the hammock. I haven't had time to get a thread going in the suspension system section. On Sunday I will get a post up demonstrating the whole system. I appreciate all the tips and info all have offered.

i never had them slip due to being threaded backwards, but that's just what i was told by the manufactuer.

if you look close, one side of the moving part has a shorter "ear" on it. threading them backwards puts more force on the side with the short ear i believe. and if you look at the design, it appears to have more surface area/friction when threaded the right way.

Viewed from the side, the buckle is assymetrical, and it's obvious how it is designed to be threaded.

In contrast, the onrope buckle is symmetrical, and I can't see that it makes any difference which way it is threaded.

I have two hammocks rigged with cinch buckles, AHE on one end, and onrope on the other. I have been comparing them for a couple of weeks, and the AHE buckle is the winner. Beautiful design and execution, very easy to operate.

The onrope buckle is good, too. I like it's compact size (about half that of the AHE buckle) and low cost. It's in ease of operation that it loses points...it can be a little balky when letting out webbing. By contrast, the AHE buckle is smooth as butter.
