    i bought one!

I'm what most people would refer to as obsessive and once i get an idea in my head i will act on it come hell or high water.

so tonight i decided i wanted to buy a sewing machine so i did:

Mrs. HandsomeRyan is in the other room playign with it right now (geez, i cant even play with my own new toy!) but soon i hope to start learning to use it. i bought 3.33 yards of $1 fabric to learn with but i'll probably end up needing more.

I'll be sending the DIYers on this forum a bill for the cost of the machine because if i hadn't seen all the cool stuff you guys made i wouldn't have wanted one.

Enjoy. You have to catch me to collect though.

On a sad note I just got done oiling my machine for storage for a while. All the fabric is also organized and packed away.

    When you leaving HE?

    HandsomeRyan,

Congrats on the new machine. I can wait to see some of your projects.

Second week of July. I'll post something with my TJ when I get around to starting it. Not really into all the prep hike entries.

Yeah I never understood that either. On crazyguyonabike, lots of people post pre-bike tour entries. They'll go as far as posting about training rides and stuff, like a year in advance. I never understood it. Make they excited about the tour/hike and they want to do something so they won't get bored.

Ha! Yeah, I get obsessive, too. Fortunately, I had a sewing machine in my closet from, like, 30 obsession ago, so it was handy to start making stuff bags and such for my ultralight backpacking obsession.

Oh my what have I just done?
I bought my first sewing machine today. Granted it is not the top of the line and looks almost toy like but hey, I only paid a little over $30 for it. I know, you get what you pay for.
Some of the reviews are not great but I'm not looking to get really serious about this sewing thing. Famous last words I'm sure.
I'm working on making my first hammock and figure it would cost me somewhere close to that amount if I took it to my local seamstress and had her hem all four edges. If it works for just that one hammock, I may have gotten my moneys worth. Plus I get the satisfaction of making it all myself.
Look at what you DIYers have done to me. It's all your fault.

He's right. I started on a Cheap-Mart sewing machine, then moved up. Nothing wrong with going cheap to start out.
