New Khione Shel replace tarp, sleeping bag and under insulation?!

I've been reading about the Khione Shel, which looks like an insulated sock. The website claims it will. E less than 2 pounds, reflects heat back to you, is waterproof and breathable. It fits any hammock and will replace your tarp, sleeping bag and sleeping pad/uq. If that's true, I'm interested. Thoughts if this is realistic?

Waterproof/Breathable is NOT realistic. Depending on what most consider breathable, W/B isn't realistic in ANY application.

    The rest could be true

It could be, but I am highly suspicious--it is asking one system to do a lot. My first pass thought is that it is trying to be the Swiss Army knife of hammock gear...and as amazing as a multitool is, it is not as good as each individual tool is on their own. Each part of the hammock gear is designed for specific purposes, and even then, there are still compromises. Could this setup work in certain instances? Quite certainly. But let's think of having a tarp, an UQ, and a TQ...if it is cold, use them all, if hot and rainy, just use the tarp...mix and match at will. Also, I wonder if this would allow for the 15 degree off center alignment to make a nice flat lay? I think, my opinion, I would wait for reviews and even then, this would not replace my traditional gear but be another option in my quivver of gear.

Don't think I could have said it better. Do like the idea of an all in one system, but also wary of it, too.

Agreed. In fact, I reached out to them. They are currently lending out their gear to people in Utah for short term and getting feedback. Their plan is to also look at opening up a kickstarter in July. I will be keeping an eye on how things go.

I am a furniture maker so have experience with low and high end tools. Reason I say this is that I certainly could buy a do it all system like the ShopSmith instead of having dedicated machines. The problem with any do all machine or product is it WILL do everything reasonably ok, but it won't do much of anything perfectly!

    I watched this video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKk4scgNG50

First thing I noticed which messes up the masses as usual is they are not laying diagonally!!! Everyone I educate about hammocks thinks you lay end to end and it is uncomfortable to sleep that way, so they give up on hammocks! If you want to get people fired up about hammock sleeping, you have to teach them that you lay diagonally!!!!! Neat product though. Interested in first impressions from someone here who gets to try one out.

Their Kickstarter is open and they boast that you can lay diagonally. It is quite interesting and compelling

I would also say you have to take into account "camp life". If it is raining, it isn't going to JUST be raining during the night. So now you are stuck in your cocoon of a hammock not being able to socialize all that much because it has to be closed up. And when you wake up in the morning (an it's still raining), how are you going to heat up your water for breakfast or anything like that. With a normal tarp, you can lift it some and make a porch while still staying dry. That's my 2 cents
