Measure the width in inches, and multiply it by 0.27777 (assuming it really is 10 yards). That will give you your square yardage.
Weigh it in ounces.
Then divide the weight by the square yardage, that will give you the material weight in oz/yd.
If it is above 1.5oz/yd it should be OK for a hammock.

Gadget, I'm impressed--with your ability to solve this problem--and I wonder if there are other ways to know fabric weight.

Oops! I almost forgot about this post!
I didn't cut the material, but just made a 10' single layer with whipped ends. Carefully at first, I tried it. A little stretch, but not bad... About like my 1.6 oz single layer. I'm still in that labor intensive testing phase, but it seems fine.

I was looking for one to be sewn, the whole deal. I tried my hand at sewing once and was terrible at it haha

I understand it takes practice but there has to be some small amount of skill to begin with I believe. I have absolutely 0
