    New guy from Missouri

I've had a rope hammock in the backyard for years and just recently decided to get a something else. I ended up buying a cheap one from Amazon but its not here yet. They wife and kids don't care much for camping and I got tired of packing the tent and all that extra junk for just me. I know I'll need a bug net to help with the mosquitos. So far all I have purchased is the hammock itself, I'll easily get carried away if I don't watch out.

Welcome from Northern Arkansas! It will take a bit to get use to a hammock, but it's well worth the effort! Lots of helpful folks on here to answer any questions you may have! Enjoy the adventure!

    Welcome, from a fellow Missourian.

Yes, hanging is a rabbit hole of gear, but a fun one.

Welcome. I got my first camping hammock setup for a canoe trip earlier this spring, and have since found about 5 more reasons to get out and hang since. I now have converted my son to hanging (8 yrs old), and we have another overnighter trip coming up in two weeks. Have also since picked up several other bits and pieces, so yes, easy to get carried away.

Oh, yeah, it is easy once you get going. It is like Steve Martin in that movie the Jerk...all I need is this hammock, that is all I need, this hammock and a bugnet, that is all I need, and this tarp and that is all I need, this hammock, the bugnet, a tarp and an underquilt...haha! Good luck!!

Welcome to the addiction. I am in south KC. Started hammocks because i could never find level ground for my tent while hiking in the Ozarks All persons of my family now have a hammock of some flavor. All of them at first made fun of me for setting up in the backyard - so keep trying you will win them over.

Hello from Alabama! You're going to have a blast. Some good deals can be found in the For Sale section...but that's a dangerous area to watch!

Welcome from Virginia! Hammocking and hammock camping can definitely be an addiction. It's not too difficult to get carried away with gear.....just remember, you always tell your wife you have a LOT less hammocks than you really do. It saves marriages.

This is exactly what I did. Where was another member who had a hammock, bugnet and tarp for sale, so I picked that too. I expect it to arrive in a day or two.
