Wife, Robyn The Foxy Lady and I June 15 - 17 HP

My family is going to try the camping out again this weekendish. Last year we tried but Robyn was really unhappy sleeping outside again (she's a rescue from Tenn. who has gone through so much pain and suffering before she was even 2 years old). She had only started to get to know us and it was a disaster.

So now that we are more together we are going to "test the waters". We're hoping that she likes it so my wife and I can make group hangs.

Wish us luck. I will also be trying out new gear and will take pics, video and review...

Good luck and look forward to seeing/reading the results. I hate to ask this but is Robyn a pup?

Yes she's a Australian Cattle Dog. And she is quite feisty and nippy (as the breed is).1.jpg

Some of the things I will be trying out: a Terrapin Outfitters Hammock Chair, a Ridgeline Hook, Solo Stoves, Webber Tabletop Gas Grill.

You're going to love the Solo stove. I got such a good deal I got the standard and the Titan. Very durable and works like a charm. As a bio or twig stove it's my second favorite. My favorite is the Kelly Kettle. The Solo stove does win out in size.
Good luck with the pooch. Maybe being a high strung breed some doggy downers might help.

Make sure she feels safe wherever you will be. She may do well sleeping in the car. When I car camp we keep Keji in the car. Also, a small doggie tent beneath your hammock might work. Have fun and good luck. Hope to see you at a hang sometime soon.

Good idea about the car. We have a travel crate but while she is crate trained at home she is not too interested in this one. It started pouring rain yesterday and she still lay on the ground (which quickly turned to puddles) instead of the crate which was right there next to our chairs and had a bed, her blanket, and a ruffwear sleeping bag in it. We were going to put the crate with me under my superfly, BUT the rain got the better of me, so Robyn and I went home. Peter stayed, and went to bed, but a couple hours later his drip lines failed and his hammock, top quilt, and shorts got wet, so then he came home too. Trip fail! I think we are cursed! (Had many problems with many trips, but we will keep trying! I SO wanted to sleep in my DH Sparrow again!)

Sorry your trip was a float out! Very curious to hear details about the drip line failure. Never had it happen but would like to further the knowledge base on drip lines.

    Cotton shoelaces?

Drip lines tied around the continuous loops on the hammock?

Drip lines well back under the tarp?

Thanks in advance and don't give up.

Good ideas PappyAmos having multiple soldiers guard the gate!

I want to sleep in a DH Sparrow, or Raven. On a more serious note, sorry you guys got rained out. I have a superfly and have never had a problem with water. I use my webbing as a drip line just half hitch it above the buckle and no problem. Keep trying it will work out. That's how we all learn. I told my Girl Scouts to think about the "next time" and write down what they would do differently (like bring better bug dope--they got chewed this weekend up in Vermont on their backpack trip). So I am sure you are thinking of the next time. At least I am glad you have not given up!
