You know, if nothing happened on this trip there wouldn't be the "memories". "Do you remember the first time we hung I was ........". Makes for good stories around the fire. Just remember that it is a lot easier to tie knots with a thumb . Welcome to the HF

Just watched your 2 You-tube videos (I fast-forwarded during the unwrapping of the chopped finger!).

The funniest thing was that you kept referring to the "tent." Guess it'll take you a while to adjust.

When your friend was talking about having a hard time adjusting, I was wondering if he was trying to find the sweet spot on the diagonal?

Lastly, although I have no plans of a DIY hammock, I liked your underhammock and I have some wallyworld SIL and ripstop.

Basekampchef's basement hammock: what dimensions is the fabric?

Nice job, too bad you had to bail. I'll be riggin up a "basement" for myself. I don't know if anyone else calls it a basement but that's what it'll forever be to me. My brother lives near Helen.

    Thanks for all the encouragement!

i have been camping since I was knee-high to a minature horse and love the outdoors. The ax fiasco was my own fault...on a hill...not level with the wood... etc....

the hammock was awesome. I cant wait for the wife to give me another kitchen pass so I can go back.

my camping buddy is creating a couple of underquilts for us so we can hang in the cold as well. I cant waitto put that video on youtube as well as report on it here.

for now, I wait for the next trip

If you like I will make you one or check out the video "easy Hammock" for direstions.

    the dimensions are:

Standard width from hobby Lobby (4-5 feet)
    Length is 7 feet

Mail me the fabric and I will make it for you and mail it back.
It takes me about an hour or two to sew the hem and sew the stuffsack into the inside... two hours of work while I watch 2 and a half men and NCIS so no skin off my thumb.

Hey basekampchef, I'm wondering what your name implies just because the topic of backcountry food isn't discussed in great detail, and on a regular basis, here on Hf. Just wondering if you had alot of experience on the subject, or if you are a chef in your chosen profession. I would love to see some threads on the subject.

Actually, my "REAL JOB" is in computers and customer support. I support, train, and hold seminars on a construction-industry-specific software.

I just love to cook and eat. I am not 400 lbs (actually 185) and have never been fat so I eat good, nut not over-eat.

    Back in the day......

    Flashback.....

    Watchout for the wavy lines.....

when I would car-camping with a group, I would always end up being the cook. the rest of the group would all chip in $10- 20 and I would plan the menu and fix all the meals..

I would end up being called Chef Steve so it kinda stuck...

So that is why I created BaseKampChef.
