    thanks everyone for the welcome

LOL Pan but with my luck I will lose and have to sleep cold the second night too Unfortunately my career of choice in the medical field requires me to take call and Mt Rogers is my call weekend. I could prolly get out of it but then I would have to work all those summer weekends too and that just can't happen.

Mac, starter hammock? I thought about one but with all the great advice and reviews around here I felt I had enough info to just do it. I haven't hung the SB yet as it is raining and I have no tarp set up yet but I got it out last night and looked it over. The workmanship is far far far beyond anything store bought. And for a noob its perfect because all the lines are in place. It even has an internal non-structural ridgeline. Other surprises? The colors are fab with black outside and olive green inside. The material is very smooth and pleasant to the touch. The zippers work better than any tent I've had, and my tents are good ones. Every inch of this thing is quality and I'm chompin' to get in it! My kayaking buddies will make fun of me for about a minute until they try it. I foresee many hanging converts by the end of the summer. BTW, how do I edit my profile to reflect my new purchase?

A lot of hopes are hanging on this hammock thing

I'm a tent backpacker, turned car camper, and have really lost a lot of the excitement of my earlier backwoods experiences. I've been lurking around the group, watching some great videos, and am really psyched about getting out into the lush woods starting this spring. First decision is to try DIY or just buy a hammock and go. I like the idea of DIY since i get the impression this is more of a "hands-on" experience than tenting, etc. Anyway, I'll have it all figured out by the Vernal Equinox and will let you know how things are going.
I live in Hicks Crossroads (outside of Charlotte, NC) so get to the mighty southern Appalachians fairly often.

Already thankful for such a great forum!
