    Landau vs EVA foam

I ordered a 1/8" thick piece of Landau foam that was recommended on one of the hammock manuf. sites. I was looking for a lightweight, cheaper option for summer use for myself and my two boys. I was really surprised by how fragile this foam is. I had it rolled out on the floor and bent down to pick it when the piece in my hand tore completely off. Now there is a softball size piece missing out of one edge. Is this an inherent trait of the thin Landau foam or does it also apply to the EVA foam such as what is sold by Gossamer Gear? Is the EVA foam much more durable or am I just fighting a losing battle with the 1/8" thick version? I've never seen or handled the Gossamer Gear foam and am trying to keep from buying (3) pieces of their foam if their is other comparable, cheaper options out there. Not to mention the fact I have the feeling the 1/4" Gossamer Gear pad would be huge to roll up for backpacking. It would probably be larger than both my boys smaller packs.

If it's that fragile, consider a sleeve of tyvek ot maybe .67 Argon or something juat to keep it together.

I put CCF in a tyvek envelope to create a sit pad.

I have only used the GG foam, but it is very fragile.

I was thinking I had read where people stated having used their Thinlight pads for years and years and they're still going strong. Seems unlikely if they are this fragile.

The thicker they are, the longer they last, in my opinion. The 1/8" do tear easily. 3/8" is much better.
