    Fabric Suggestions

I'm saving up for a new Chameleon and the video on Hexion got me thinking: what fabric would suit me best? I was intrigued by the discussion on side sleeping, so I thought I would ask those who have used Dutch's fabrics. For background, I currently use a HH Jungle double layer.

    My sleeping style:
    I'm 155-160 lbs (150-155 when training for a run)
I like soft beds, my current is a pillow top and I'm very comfortable in it.
    I'm a side sleeper in a bed.
My wife got me hooked on super soft, high thread count sheets.

In general, what would be a good Chameleon fabric for me based on others experience? I used to think a heavier fabric, but now I'm reconsidering that thought.

    Thanks for any input.

I think RSBTR Diamond HyperD 1.6 is the softest material. As for what Dutch sales, I use Hexon 1.6. I love it.

    Either 1.0 or 1.6.

Did you continue to follow that thread after you posted in it? I'm not sure there is much more useful info anyone can tell you.

Best thing would be to try them.

If there is a group hang in your area maybe you can arrange in advance to have 1 or 2 folks let you try them for an initial impression.

Buy 4 yards of each fabric and make the two hammocks yourself. Either sew them or simply whip the ends. This would give you the yuuge advantage of being able to test each for multiple consecutive nights. Leaving the fabric full length also gives you the opportunity to try any length by whipping, so that you can find which is your minimal comfort length.

Keep checking in the FS forum or post in WTB for netless versions, one in each fabric.

Maryland isn't a million miles from Lancaster, perhaps you could arrange with Dutch for a brief comparison test at his shop? The danger here is that brief tests aren't all that telling, and you may wind up bringing home a chameleon in each flavor.

Yes, but it seemed that thread was limited to 2 weights of the same fabric, so just checking if that's the best fabric option going right now.

Those are two really good ideas for trying the fabric, especially since my daughters are interested in trying a hammock. I'll check pricing on the fabric.

Ah, I keep forgetting that the chameleon is available in argon 1.6. I have no experience with that fabric but my best guess is that, in terms of firmness, it would fall between hexon 1.0 and 1.6. Perhaps similar to hyperd 1.6, if you've ever tried that.

I sleep constantly on my side with hexon 1.6. I bunch up my top quilt (XL) under my arm and top leg and can sleep better than in any bed.

Thanks, that helps get me in the ballpark.

When discussing stretch, like in the 1.0 Hexion, does overall sag increase, or does it just have a softer feel and give more at pressure points, like a soft mattress?

I'm leaning towards the 1.0, I just want to make sure at 150-160 lbs I'm not going to become a banana in it.

Thanks for all the responses so far.
