// Video: Father's Day Overnighter at 9000ft on San Jacinto //

My son and I went on an 16 mile overnight trip with our hammocks up to Mt. San Jacinto, the 2nd highest peak in Southern California.

We started at the trailhead from Humber Park in Idyllwild, CA (6,581ft elevation). We went up the Devil's Slide Trail and it was 90 degrees and a hot 4.5 mile hike until we hit about 9000ft. The higher we got the cooler it got. We camped overnight along the PCT. We were rewarded with views of Palm Springs and stars in the desert sky. The next morning we packed up and hiked up to the summit at 10,834 ft. After enjoying the views from the summit, we hiked the 8 miles back down the mountain back to Humber Park. It was a great father son trip on a Father's Day weekend. I hope you enjoy the video. Video's never do it justice. You'd have to be there yourself.

BEAUTIFUL! Man you guys are so lucky to have areas like this to hike this time of year especially a father son trip on fathers day weekend. Congrats on the time with your son. Thanks for taking us along. That was some very sharp video. What camera did you use to film this trip.

Looks like a great trip with your son....thanks for sharing it. I'm going to do this same trip but not until about mid September. Going to stay up there for two nights mid week. Is the trailhead parking relatively secure? Also, did you get your permits and passes at the Idyllwild ranger station?

Nice report! Those night sky pictures were terrific and glad you had such a great time. A visit to the west coast and a few days on the PCT are on my bucket list.

Thank you so much! My Sierra! I can't go this year and my heart aches. Your video really helped. My trips are mostly in the Central Sierra but the terrain was very similar. Beautiful video, really nice music. Thanks again.

I used a Sony RX100. Too bad I went through a dust storm and now I have dust on the sensor.

There is probably about enough spaces for maybe 40-50 cars. I got the permits from the Idyllwild ranger station in town. No fee for the permits, however keep in mind that the Adventure pass you need for the parking is only good until 10am. So unless you get back sooner than 10am, you will need an Adventure pass for 2 days.

Nice video! Looks like you snagged a nice campsite too. Those mountains are beautiful for sure. Every time I drive through Palm Springs, I always look up in awe at San Jacinto.
