the UQ is 140 cm wide. which as i realize seems to be more than normal. but it blocks the wind well, also works for 2 ppl. as well.

how wide is a normal UQ? is the size the only reason normally they dont block the view?
Are you laying diagonal in your hammock? I could see it wrapping up on you if you are laying down the middle.

its not really wrapping around me, just pulling up on the sides.

dioginal sleep with an underblanked? mate ... i will have to go to hammock university for that. in 50 nights i havent even managed to hang my cargo h. in a way that the cargo in there is not touching me ....

so i sleep usually on the backpack and the IKEA bag under my legs

Yeah, getting diagonal is going to take care of a lot of that because 1) you're creating additional width on the bottom to cover which will spread out the UQ more, and 2) you're head will be right there so that you can more easily adjust the UQ as needed for viewing. If still a problem, then some quilt hooks might do to keep the hem of the quilt and hammock together.

The UQ, not so much. But the right side of the hammock is another story.

But I don't mind it. A gathered end is still my preference for simplicity. And the only time I really want a good view is when I'm up and having breakfast. At this point, I scoot way up in the hammock so I'm almost in a seated position - a lot easier for the coffee to go down.
