The 2017 4th Annual Hunger Hang / Halloween Hang / OBXH20 Hang at Merchants Mill Pond State Park NC

Fall ( and hopefully cooler weather ) is coming and so is the 2017 4th Annual Hunger Hang.

In remembrance of OBXH20; I will be setting up a chair for him around the cave man tv. If you have any pictures of OBX, please share them. For those of you who did not know him, OBXH2O was a long time hanger who passed away recently. He attended most of the hangs at Merchants MP SP.

Meal planning sheet can be found at the bottom of the Sign Up sheet.

When: 26, 27 28 and 29 ( 12 noon Thursday thru 12 noon Sunday ) October 2017. The Terminator and I usually get there about 12 Noon on Thursday.

Where: Drive in Group Sites 1. We have Site 1 for all 3 nights. Hosted by The Terminator, Gunner76 and Sam the puppy. Due to the rising costs of the sites, I have not reserved Group Site 2.

Cost..$15

One of the nice things about Group Site 1 is that you can park next to the site to unload you gear and then drive just a few hundred feet to the parking area.

Food...we usually do group meals so if you can fix and or share something for any of the meals then please do so. If you prefer to bring and cook you own food then that is ok too.

Firewood...we can always use firewood for the caveman TV.

Water...there is water available at the site.

Restrooms...there is a ladies and men's restroom along with a large shower close to Group Site 1.

Tents... tent users are welcome to join us.If you have never slept in a hammock and want to try it; then let us know and we can usually come up with extra gear ( first come first serve )

This is also a great place for kids.

Don't forget to bring a camp chair.

There are not any grocery stores closeby ( the nearest ones are a 30+ minute drive ). There is a stop and rob close to the park that sells ice and drinks and gas.

As usual I will have a large yellow sign across from the turn off to the group site. I as many times as I have been here, I still miss the turn off as it sneaks up on you.

The group sites are about 1 mile south of the park office. If you are not sure where to go then stop at the park office and ask the folks at the counter. They know about us crazy hammock hangers and can point you in the right direction.

Sorry to hear about OB. Met him at HangCon, nice guy.

I need to start playing lotto so I can attend some of your Northern Hangs more. Have a great time up there and post lots of pics so I can drool over the beautiful sites up there.

Woohoo! This would possibly be the second time I get to use my new Blackbird and Superfly. That is if I don't get an earlier opportunity. Gunner is helping me tweak the Ridgeline and such with Dutchware bugs. I use tarp worms on the tie outs an have one of each hook and wasp for the Ridgeline. Fun stuff and it sleeps very well.

You may remember that I couldn't sleep on the ground in my new Lightheart Solong6 and Klymit Static V even with another mattress on top of that, that Shooter loaned me and I even had my Z seat under both and it hurt my hips badly. I had to leave the Linville Gorge trip a day early. I then went to the Smoky Butt Hang at Falls Lake and Kingsford made arrangements for me to use his Danger Dan hammock and someone loaned me a UQ. I slept very well in it so I got with Gunner to find a good Hammock, hense the Blackbird purchase. I found a seller on Facebook site Backpacking gear for sale and found a Hammock Gear zero + 4 oz Incubator. Lucked out with that. I got a sock for it too and a UQ protector.
I used it Friday the 26th ahead of a Triangle Hiking and camping Meetup at Falls of the Neuse for hiking and swimming in the lake. Beautiful place and lifeguard on duty. Only 5 bucks for swimming. About 1.5 hrs from Morehead so I'll be doing that when I can.
Looking forward to seeing you guys again and Sam and watch caveman TV. Hope Shooter and - I can't remember his handle - the school teacher, and Shooter and he can play us some tunes.

Seems to be a conflict between the gorge fall hang and this one so I won't be there. By the way McD I still have your chair and some other odd and ends of yours.
