Just wondering if anyone has tried an emergency blanket (an insulated one, not the space blanket types) for underneath insulation? Was just wondering if that works as good as a pad would if you don't want to take an UQ.

Just to add some extra idea of what I would have in mind, I have a dreamhammock sparrow that is double-lined... thinking that fitting one of these blankets in between the fabric layers might provide enough warmth in temps 40 degrees or higher?

It will certainly help with insulation though the opinions vary quite a bit in terms of how much. The big issue with the space/emergency blanket solutions are almost always condensation related however. And the lower the temps go, the more pronounced those condensation issues often are. Because of this, an emergency blanket is sometimes integrated into an insulation system (like the HHSS), but usually not recommended for stand alone insulation. However, for $10 it may be worth a shot to see how it works in your context.
All of these types of mylar layered fabrics don't breath so you will end up with a very sweaty back and then you'll freeze to death later that evening.

I got one of these when I started out. I used it exactly once under a sleeping pad, thinking it would cover my shoulders/arms (and it did) but I woke up with a wet pad. I was using a single layer, so it was between me and my hammock and it is waterproof as advertised. From that experience, I'd say between layers you'd wake up with a damp/wet hammock. I took it with me as a backup for a few more trips, but now it's at the bottom of my gear bin.
Get a blue closed cell foam at WallyWorld... $14... less of an issue with condensation.
A lot depends on both the weather AND how hot YOU sleep. Some folks are fine with them. [Shug sez he used his for two years before jumping to an underquilt.]

I am not interested in cheating out lol... just curious. I own 3 hammockgear underquilts, one 3/4 length 20 degree, a full length 20 degree and a 0 degree with matching top quilts. I buy the most epic gear I can find (much to the chagrin of the wife) but in the texas heat was wondering if it might work better as a wilt is a little much sometimes.
