I was wondering if anyone has a favorite loop to do in north carolina, georgia, virginia area? I am looking to escape the heat here in georgia, so higher elevation with water sources is more like it.
thanks!

Head to the Smoky Mnts and there are many many loops that will get you this mileage and keep you relatively cool.
I'm doing a 24 mile loop that's like half a mile from the NC/GA border, its called the Standing Indian loop. I'm leaving tomorrow morning with a couple buddies, if you'd like I can do a trip report when I return Sunday. It's supposed to be a gorgeous loop.

I would love the read that trip report Bobo. I'm planning a late September trip in that area.
Triple Crown loop in Virginia. Mcafee Knob, tinker cliffs and dragon tooth. It's about 39 miles.
Here are a few ideas. I've got some video on my YouTube channel on all of these. Can't say they are all 30 miles but I'm sure you could add mileage somewhere, or do like me and do some lolly gagging.
- Standing Indian loop
- TN/NC border - Carvers Gap to 19E (one way / requires car shuttle)
- Great Smoky Mtns - Mt Sterling loop
- Shining Rock Wilderness

Grayson Highlands in SW VA has some good loops. I don't remember exact distances, but there are good 2 and 3 day loops that are about 2/3 AT and 1/3 back trails (Pine Mountain or Mt Rogers Trail depending on the distance you want to cover). If you plan carefully you can get 30-40 miles with little to no out and back.
What trails did you combine? I am going backpacking with my daughter late September and we want to do 3 nights out. She lives in Roanoke (recent move) and I'm going to head there and save her some time traveling. We would like to stay out on the trails for 4 days and not do in-n-outs. Thanks for any suggestions.
