    Hammocks for Heroes

My son and I are starting to get our preference for hammocks nailed down and locked in but it has taken a few purchases to get there and we may be doing a few more buys before it is all said and done.

So now we have one or two hammocks that we don't need and instead of selling them here to recoup some of the money I got this idea in my head, What if I were to donate them to Service Personnel serving in a war zone.

I have no idea what it would cost to send a couple of hammocks around the world and no idea of whom I would send them to in the first place. Is there an organization set up that could handle something like this?

Although I admire the idea, I'm not sure it would be best to send them overseas or get much use. It might be better to try to locate a wounded warrior type organization for vets that have already returned and could put them to good use. That's just a though.

Contact the USO (United Services Organization), the American Legion or VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). One or all of those places should be able to help you out.

865-336-3526 is the number for a chaplain at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base part of the TN National Guard. Chaplains and their enlisted counterparts generally are a wealth of information.
