Is a 10x10 cat cut tarp long enough for a WBBB XLC?

Hi All, thanks for your expertise on this.

I am buying my first hammock from someone on this forum who is selling it complete with a wookie xl and a 10x10 OES tarp. I was looking at the Thunderfly and never considered a square tarp. Is this going to be too short to keep the ends of my new hammock dry?

Assuming diagonal pitch, You are looking for the hypotenuse of the edges, which in this case is 10 * square root of 2 = 14ft and change. That's plenty for just about any hammock.

For square pitch, well... 10.

I think the WBBB XLC is an 11' hammock... rule of thumb is you want at least an 11' tarp for that. So it's fine if you pitch it like a diamond, but short if you pitch it square to the hammock.

11 foot hammock with a ridgeline needs under 9.5 feet of tarp for coverage. a 10 foot, square tarp should still be enough, but it won't be great in driving rain that you're not head on to
