    FL>ONF>FALL Hang Maybe?

The Scouts are looking to host a local hang at a popular local ONF venue. Ideas so far will have the scouts providing setup before, clean up afterwords, as well as providing all food and cooking. This is a test planning and interest only thread. This event would be limited to a small group under 50. It would be pre register only.

Some events could be planned (hikes, fire building, and other outdoor skill activities) but will not be required.

I am trying to prevent youth scout interaction with participants after dinner. There will always be scout leader supervision at all times. BSA has a strict 2 deep leadership at all times.

THIS IS ONLY AN IDEA RESEARCH THREAD! NO PLANS OR LEGAL LIMITATIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT. THIS MAY NOT EVEN BE POSSIBLE.

I'm just trying to get an idea of interest and possible problems/concerns.

I would like to get a plan together for a future event.

I could use and would like all the planning help good and bad so we can see if this is even possible.

    Thanks Jason

Jason, I'm interested, but not sure what you meant in this paragraph. Chris

The adult activities are not family friendly according to the guide to safe scouting. (Example) smoking around scouts in not permitted. BSA recognizes the addiction to smoking and provides an exit, adults must smoke/vape on an as needed basis and completely out of site of all scouts.

Adult leaders are to lead by setting the best example of appropriate behavior. (Commitment to god, community, nature, and so on). Other adult or age restricted activities (alcohol, foul language) are not allowed.

My intention is to have a regular low restricted HF event, hosted by scouts. So I hope you now see some of the issues I face in such an event.

I bring my family and friends who are also scouts to HF events (not scout events) knowing that it is not a scout event and what to expect.

A scout event is ultimately my responsibility. What I expose scouts to at these events needs to remain controllable. Or at last containable.

I hope that helps a little.

Yeah, I was involved in scouting for years and it gets really hairy inviting adults along that haven't had the prerequisite youth protection and other training. It sounds like a blast but don't open yourself up to problems from BSA. Maybe float this at a meeting and see what kind of response you get from the parents. As a CYA I'd at least get some kind of parental consent if that's even possible.

That's the point of this planning thread. Ideas how to manage risk. I was thinking buck lake as a venue. I was thinking of setting up the scout where the small parking lot is just past the restroom on the left. And the cooking area in the first picnic area to the right of the entrance. The common are would be open to participants
