Trouble sewing 10D nylon taffeta! Any tips?

Hello all. I'm working on a top quilt.
For the shell I'm using a 0.66oz 10D nylon taffeta from Ripstopbytheroll. 0.5oz Noseeum baffles.

    Thread is a Gutemann polyester.

My machine just can't get the right thread tensioning. No matter how much I loosen the tension the top thread lies on top of the fabric. And the fabric keeps getting sucked down into the bobbin too. Some times it looks like its working but it's bunching the fabric up.

    Any tips?

    Kyle, you on here?

What type of Gütermann thread are you using? I found Mara 70 way too thick. I have used Sew All (= Mara 120) with good success.

Correction- Sew All is Mara100. I use Mara120 on such light fabrics with a 60/8 microtex needle.

Thanks; interesting - they're selling Sew All ("Allesnäher") as Mara 120 here... But maybe there are two types of Sew All. In any case, anything above Mara 100 is overkill for non-load bearing applications.

What machine do you have, some dont like ultralights due to the feet design and then gaps between the teeth.

Holding the fabric infront of and behind the foot is essential.

Have you adjusted the bobbin tension?

What foot are you using does it have a slot for the needle like a zigzag foot or a small hole for a straight stitch foot.

Can you adjust the foot pressure this can make a big difference.

I find thread and needle size doesnt make a great deal of difference i can with with mara 60 or 70 or 100 or 120 all the same.
Are you using a microtex needle?

I can't believe no one has yet suggested tissue paper under the fabric, though Jellyfish's videos cover it. It works, though I haven't gone this light ...yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't. It gives the teeth something to bight.

The problem with any additional layer that you remove is, that it makes the stitches larger. I use small bits of paper in the beginning and the end, but I wouldn't want to use it along the complete seam.

I hold the material tight front and back and stitch in relatively small sections at a time. It's tedious and time-consuming but it stitches pretty well. You can also look into a single hole needle plate for your machine, that would help. And of course the right needle and thread for the material.
