    Canada>Ontario>Algonquin>EGL Canoe Hang - September 2017

    Canada>Ontario>Algonquin>EGL Canoe Hang - Algonquin - September 29 - Oct 1, 2017

    Hi Gang,

This spring's two part trip seemed so well received that maybe we should attempt another. Hopefully we'll catch the Algonquin's Autumn colours at their peak, although it'll be hard to be Pen from a couple years back.

    • The main event (Sept 29-Oct 1) -Red: The Weekend Hang on Ragged Lake. Which site exactly is tbd.
    • The optional event (Sept 25'ish - Sept 29) - Blue: The Loop from Smoke>Tanamakoon>Cache>Head>Harness>Louisa>North Grace>McGarvey>Big Porcupine>Ragged as suggested by Bubba. A side trip to the old growth forest on Dividing Lake at the lower part of the map, and a shortened route across the middle have been marked by dotted lines. We already have some interest in this.

There's a Google Sheets sign-up form here. It'd be nice to know who's coming and how many sites we'd need. I'm hoping we make this a classic gourmet trip and come up with some fantastic backcountry cuisine that'll be the envy of the park. Even the bear's will have to wear bowties if they expect to share.

Note: For those anglers in the group, the end of September marks the end of trout season in Algonquin, and most of southern Ontario for that matter.

Sounds great! I don't think I've recovered enough to consider the blue route. So far my plans are to be in the red group probably coming in early on the 28th. I'll have to think up something creative food wise. Even though I won't be portaging, I have no intention of putting a Dutch Oven in my kayak.
If the minds of living beings are impure, their land is also impure, but if their minds are pure, so is their land. There are not two lands, pure or impure in themselves. The difference lies solely in the good or evil of our minds.

You will be portaging - just one. It's not long but it's got a pretty good hill to start it. Someone will likely help you share the weight of the boat if required.
    240m - That's a 48 rod portidge (translated to American)

We'll get LuvmyBonnet over that portage one way or another. Well his heavy gear/kayak at least; I don't think we can fit a palanquin in any of our canoes.

Great route, I'm in for 'the full monty.' Thanks to Bubba for the suggestion.

The only gourmet fare I crave is more trout, counting on you for a repeat performance LuvmyBonnet!

If you could pull that off I would've been a Cedar Tough.

Now that would be something! I'm still reveling over that last beauty.

I'm in for the weekend hang but as always it'll depend on the homefront. I know it's not necessarily new or epic but I do miss our classic EGL chowder. It's been a while.
