Doesn't mean you have to do it first though. I always pull thru first then taper, find it quicker.
    YMMV

Yep that is what I did. I noted that I did not have to taper before hand to get it thru the internal pull.
This line seems rounder than Zing It, but is a little stiffer.

Oh yeh, pulling through a hole sideways is fine, it's the buried cord that needs to be tapered.

Nah, I do it all untapered. I only cut the tapers once I've completed the bury. I've even pulled two lines through the bury (not with this cord admittedly).

Most people do not taper their ends before they splice because they learn to splice by using fids. BUT if you splice with a pull wire, tapering the ends before hand really speeds up the whole process as you don't have to pull so much bulk through the core. And then once through your done. No fussing with tapering after the fact. Best of Luck!

I used a 20 gauge stainless jewelry wire.
What size Fid should be used for this 1.75 mm dia ironwire?

For wire, I use .020" Stainless "Hardwire". Aka, leader wire. You can buy this stuff at any tackle shop. I straighten, bend in half, and then crimp a loop on the one end so I can hook it to a steel rod (post) on my bench or to a carabiner and pull it. Its like having a second set of hands. It also allows you to pull something through that a fid could never push through in a million years. I use a whole range of wire thicknesses for different size cords and ropes. The thicker the cord/rope the thicker I go with my wire as its easier to push the long bury's. I have gotten pretty use to using wire for all aspects of splicing so I do not use fids much. They do work good for passing line through itself when making your brummel, but for pulling bury's. Wire all the way. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

I use this for almost all splicing, and it has changed my life. https://www.coastwatersports.co.uk/s...ce=GoogleBase1

Looks great, especially the handle to help with the pull thru the center.
The bare wire one I made was a pain to hold on to.
