    KAQ with IX

Hey All, just thought I would let everyone know that We now have Insultex available as an add on upgrade to the full line of Kick *** Quilts. Big thanks to MacEntyre for getting a roll of it out to me.

As well I just got in Black Seatbelt Webbing. I will have it added to the webbing suspension and DIY options on my site in the next couple hours.

Paul- If you're still waiting for the climashield from your supplier for my KAQ and it is easy to add the IX to my KAQ at this time, go ahead and do it, then Ill test it out! Let me know if theres extra to pay.

Can you explain the benefits of a KAQ with Insultex? May help those who haven't been following the IX discussions.

The big point would be that IX works as a thermal barrier. Helping to trap heat inside the quilt and slowing the heats dissipation from the quilt. This will let your body work less to maintain the warmth.

Of corse Mac has done a lot more experimenting with IX in the last couple months and may have some more input.

    Paul,

Could existing KAQs be retrofit with IX?

It could be doable, but it would be a good bit of work. I will have to think about that one. I would have to undo the end stitching, and inside the quilt out, sew the IX in place and then re-finish the quilt. Yes doable. Cost will think on that one.

You'd probably have to remove all the suspension as well (and then put it back on). Not a huge deal, but something to take into consideration.

Excellent description and reasoning for putting the IX under the outer shell of the KAQ. That's what I would prefer. The best results I have seen were when I socked my PeaPod with IX. Being on the outside allows the deep, warm feeling of the Climashield to be next to you, and the Climashield conforms to your shape better. The Climashield retains it's heat better because it has a semi-permeable insulating IX barrier outside it.

That is best done with a removable insert. Make a KAQ shaped piece of IX, put light nylon on both sides, and use ties at the ends and the tie-outs to keep it in place.

I would wait until there's a few out there, and see what the actual benefit turns out to be, before commiting to a retrofit like that.
