Measuring hangle from inside the hammock

    Has anyone ever done this?

I do the finger gun thing with the ends of my thumb and forefinger on the ridgeline. Then I see if the angle of my forefinger and suspension are about the same.

This only really works for the foot end of the hammock, though.

    Any other genius solutions?

If my SRL is not slack and not so tight I can't give it a tweak then I know my hangle is good.
I chuck my backpack in the hammock to get an idea whilst I adjust the suspension.

Is your hammock 9 feet long or 10 feet long--or do you have both?
Gadget--plus plus one--a perfect description of correct ridgeline tension correlation with 30 degree hang angle.
PapaSmurf at DreamHammocks has a short video showing Gadgets description.
Also my SpiderSense has me wondering if you do have a 9 and or a 10 foot hammock--and you not quite comfortable--that you are trying to correct discomfort by getting a 30 degree hang angle......
My two cents--get an 11 foot hammock and or a 12 foot hammock for comfort--especially reduction or elimination of CalfRidgePressure.
All this was me guessing--again--and if I'm wrong--I'm kicked out of the Genius Club---even though--I was smartest kid in third grade two years in a row...

It's just not that important. 30° is used as a starting point and adjusted from there for comfort. If your setup is comfortable, you're done.

I have never "measured" my hangle. Ever. Moreover, I suspect that if I ever lost my mind, and hung a perfect 30, I'd find it uncomfortable.

Exactly. If the hammock is comfortable, who cares if the suspension angle is 33° or 28°?

I try not to over-think it.. not easy for me.

I 'shoot' my suspension lines every now and then, but tweaking the RL is more useful. To be frank, an 11 footer is far more forgiving to hang/set than my old 10.. I rarely check these days.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

Just in case anybody thinks I'm obsessing about hang angle, the answer would be no.I've learned that if the bubble is between the mark and the tree then I have more than 30 degrees so I just make sure the bubble is to the tree side of the mark. The device makes a nice little water break of sorts if you're looking for "double duty" items.Having a slacker ridge line is much more comfortable from my perspective.
