Question Advice for a Double tarp?

Hey all just wondering what tarps you guys have seen / have used for a double hang with the spreader bar?

In the market for a tarp at the moment and unsure if I should make one up or which ones are best for dual hammocking?

    Cheers, Newt

Hello, I've seen a picture somewhere I believe on this site, of someone using the Kelty Noahs tarp 12ft for a double hand. So maybe not needing that one but maybe one of similar size? I dunno just a thought.

And you can go bigger, if needed for rain ☔️ protection. If you go bigger, consider a lighter tarp material--big tarps can get heavy?

A rectangle 11 x 10 will work and JRB has a very versatile one. Other than that any winter tarp will work. We stock Wilderness Logics Old Man Winter and it gives great coverage. You close the foot end and put the feet closer in there. Leave the head end open. I plan on making a two person tarp but I am waiting on a very special sewing machine.

I second the consideration of a rectangle tarp; I like to use a 12' x 10' for my tandem Chameleons.

Dutch, don't you have that extra wide silny or silpoly? I've wanted to make a winter tarp out of that as it feels like the sides on the kit I got were a bit short. I debated making a 3-panel out of it for the extra coverage, (one upside down V in the middle, then long sides and doors off of that).

Right now I have Xenon Wide on sale for an incredible price at $5 per yard. https://dutchwaregear.com/xenon-sil-wide.html

I made this from extra wide silpoly...
It's huge and gives a ton of coverage. Any extra wide silpoly/nylon would work. I'm sure there are vendors with extra wide tarps....

Before this we used a standard winter tarp.

Xenon Wide is my favorite waterproof tarp fabric to sew, hands down; it's awesome stuff. I used XW to make my first-ever widebody tarp.

A 12' x 12' feels luxurious over a tandem hang, but in truth some may consider it overkill in all but the worst weather, especially over two Chameleons separated by a shorter 32" spreader bar (compared to the 36" one I used to use). A widebody tarp does afford one more opportunity to block the wind with a proper pitch over a tandem hang, even if a narrower tarp will still keep the two hammocks dry.
