No worries, the entire length of logs tend to burn real hot so nothing really to trip over. In fact, for a huge group, might just stack trees. No rule to how long a long fire can be. Ideal logs will be a foot in diameter or bigger and burn for hours. Just burn it all Mwahahaha

In the winter, you can start a small fire and then cross over two medium size logs. Once the logs burn through, you can just push them into the center fire as the ends continue to burn.

Yep, been doing this for over 40 years and it works just fine.

MN Frozen Butt Hang 2018 Official Planning Thread

I am glad to see everyone so excited for this years MN Frozen Butt! It is going to be the biggest one yet and could possibly be one of the largest hangs in the country! I know there are a few people disappointed in the direction this event has gone but but please understand that with hammock camping getting more popular and winter hammock camping being sort of the ultimate test, this is the safest (other than your backyard ?) place to try it out. Not mention with this many people out with their setups, you're bound to see something different. Super pumped for this years FBH! AND PLEASE GO TO THE FACEBOOK GROUP PAGE AND FILL OUT THE GOOGLE SPREADSHEET IF YOU'RE COMING! Thanks a lot and happy hangen!

Sorry - my attempt at humor failed...what I meant to say was that I have this obsession with having the “right” size logs - just a compulsion or something

Since this is happening at a campground will firewood be available for purchase?
Don't think they will want a group scavaging for firewood all over the campgrounds and cutting stuff.
    Just a though I had.

Thanks for the question, Shug. We have some attendees discussing bringing trailers full of chopped firewood. Additionally, the camp is surrounded by national forest, and we specifically called and asked the outfitters and were told that we could take down/dead trees for firewood - which as you know is our standard protocol.

I am planning on attending (already signed up). I have my gear pretty squared away but was unsure of water. Do we just bring some jugs and then thaw them out when it freezes? Also will there be any signs up or directions once we get there? I got a long drive from OH lol.

The outfitter/campground is at the end of the road.... can't miss it! As for the water jugs, bring water in the plastic 1gal milk jugs and we can just cut them open to melt. Since we will be on a lake, if there is not enough water, we can fairly easily get water from there. In past years that has not been an option so we've grown accustomed to people bringing frozen jugs to melt as melting snow for this many people becomes a real challenge. Hope that helps!
