    Warbonnet Blackbird UQ

I'm taking my son's on a camping trip to Wyoming the 3rd week of September.

I would like to know which UQ to get for the Blackbird, 1.1 or 1.7?

This is my first hammock so I don't know anything about them.

I'm trying to make this a good trip for them, it may be the only time we get out there from VT.

    Thanks all.

There are tons of threads on this that you can find using the search function! Happy searching. You will find that most people have a certain preference due to brand loyalty etc., bust most of our cottage vendors here produce excellent quality UQs that will fit 99% of gathered end hammocks, including the Blackbird. I hope you all have a great time.

Yes, there are way too many options out there.
Shug has some great videos on Youtube, and worth the time sitting to watch.
Like Carter said, searching here is the best way. And you will get as many opinions as posts.

Do you want to save weight? Ease of setup? Warmth required? Cold or warm sleeper? Full length, 3/4 or shorter? Down or synthetic? Method of baffling? Cost? Shipment fast, or wait? ETC.
And I am still a newbee, and those are just what i know to ask about.

    Lots to consider.......
full, partial, temp rating, color, shipping time, suspension, down or synthetic.
    Here is some UQ intel.....https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...mBYSPGHjdyGqsL
Also Warbonnet makes UQs just for their hammocks.
    Carry forth.

Yep, Wookie. Tough to beat, the fiddle free design is very user friendly. I'd imagine all the extra fabric on it does add some weight however.

Are you asking for a recommendation as to which brand of UQ, which temperature rating, or is your question which weight fabric (1.1 or 1.7) you should select?

Not really, because due to their design, they have a smaller insulated area (only just under the user) and thus use less down and fabric for baffles. So it pretty much even's it out

I hadn't thought about this. Good point.

    Back up a little bit.
    1. HOW OLD OF "son" are we talking about?
    2. What type of trip do you have planned?
    3. Is weight an issue?
    4. What about cost?

When my kids were young I bought sturdy gear for them so they could just use it and have fun.
I made sure everything was very washable.
After the age of 10 I bought adult size gear, except for the middle child who was pushing 6ft even before puberty hit her.

I am guessing the 1.1 or 1.7 is the weight of the fabric the hammock is made from. 1.1 & 1.7 are used for fabric weight, the 1.1 being a finer weave and not as strong as the 1.7.

Personally if the son is young I would go with the synthetic because it will be less delicate than the down and will take more washings and it is a whole lot easier to dry if it gets wet.

EGAD, I just looked at the date on this post, way last August, we are now in the fourth week of September! LOL
