    Shortened ridge runner headpole

I know many people run slightly shorter than the stock poles at the head end of the ridge runner. I'm interested to know how much shorter and what the benefits are from a comfort perspective. IE why did you start running a shorter head-pole and what specific benefit did you derive from it?

I cut mine down to 37". For me it makes the hammock feel softer.

I tried shorting my head end pole but I wasn't a fan. The hammock had a lot more shoulder squeeze and started to feel like a gathered end and without the ability to get diagonal.

The issue I am having is pressure points on my shoulder blades. I can alleviate it with a Thermarest but it's heavy and I prefer to use my lynx. Wondering what a slight decrease in tension via a shortening of the pole might do.

Give it a try you might like it. You could try it real quick by leaving the short section out as a test.

I have two sets of poles for my Ridgebridge. One is carbon and the other is the newer nesting design so I don't have the ability to leave the short segment out or I definitely would have already.

Ah, good point. Maybe try cutting a 2x2 in various lengths with a screw in each end to hold it in place to experiment with.

I may just order a single center pole from Josh in carbon that's an inch or two shorter. I can't imagine it would run much more than $20 if a full set is $85.

Stock bar should be 39". I tried a 36" from a diy bridge and it felt a tad short. I went with 37" and worked for me.
