Using Dutchware to easily add or remove Spindrift sock

I just thought I should share what I have done to hang my WBRR. The components are from Dutchware and the carabineer fits perfectly in the slot of the cinch buckle. This makes it very easy to add or remove the Spindrift, and it shortens the suspension compared to the original, and I believe it weighs less. WP_20170726_002.jpg

How much is the suspension shortened at each end if the hardwear arrangement is the same at both ends? Thanks.

That's actually a good idea!! I use the Dutch biners to replace that triangle where the suspension and dog bones come together. I never though of getting rid of the amsteel on the suspension side. It won't shorten the dog bones, so there probably isn't any extra stress on the hammock either. I might have to give this a go!

About 4 inches on both sides because it removes the amsteel loop, so about 8 inches total give or take. You could always shorten it more by using a larkshead to the carabineer, though being 240 lbs, I am not doing any experimenting with shortening the lines. WP_20170819_002.jpg

Nice. Undoing and redoing the suspension has always been the biggest pain to using the Spindrift.

My one thought is the metal to metal contact. If it were me I'd probably use a short continuous loop between the Dutch biner and buckle. I remember hearing somewhere that should avoid metal to metal or line to line connections in your suspension. Nevertheless, it may work just fine for you as is.

    Thanks for sharing this.

Yes I know what you are saying drsolarmolar, and if you are going to be rockin in your hammock that much you should avoid metal to metal, among other precautions. At first I just used only the ti cinch buckle, but I had to call upon my super human strength to get it around the buckle because the loops were so small, so I added the carabineers.

So is there no risk of this thing failing become it is being pulled in two different directions?

No, the only forces on it is the hammock and bugnet holding it open. Nothing it pulling it out.
