Im planning to make ultralight DIY hammock and considering zipper #3 instead of #5 to save some weight. What are experiences with smaller zip, is it too fragile? Anybody uses such zipper on his hammock?

How much weight will you be saving by using a # 3 ?
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
#3 ykk is ok for a hammock as long as you don’t stress it too much. I only use # 3. All zippers has its limits no matter what the size is. If you have to go around corners make the radius as big as you can, zippers and sharp turns is a bad combination no matter the zipper seize.
If there is nothing left to learn it’s time to die.
Live and learn.
I have use a #3 on my hammock for a zipp off bug net. I have used it with out care almost abused it and still no problem. That being said. I use #5's on the hammock I sell, just for added peace of mind.

No problem. I realy have used my hammock for no less than 40 times with the bugnet. My only complaint is I used one continuous zipper and I realy like the two separate zipper option, although it would (I think) be a bit more weight. And have been pushing to get to that 10 lbs base weight. 13 lbs right now. Soon to be 11 lbs after I make my top quilt.

When you say "two separate zipper" you mean continuous zipper with two sliders or actually two separate pieces of zipper? And that on one side or at each sides of hammock?
