Probably. The other side of the coin is that, if they had, they would have never gotten any initial momentum. Granted, they have some issues that need to be worked out and a majority of us are skeptical, but they have a base to start from. The SHEL won't be the end-all, be-all solution for hammocks. It's trying to do too much. It's a Jack of all Trades, Master of None scenario. It'll provide mediocre weather protection and mediocre warmth with a few peculiarities (like setup/teardown in foul weather, condensation, etc.) It won't excel at any one thing. It's a shame too. I want to love it. A single product to mitigate all your hammocking woes? Yes please. I'm still waiting to see the pudding so I can find the proof though.

..and I love me some pudding.

This is obviously for casual hangers in mild conditions... not this crowd!

Most folks new to camping like to be ensconced in something that makes them feel safer but which has windows to reduce claustrophobia, and maybe there's a large market for this.

I'm sure these things have been mentioned up-thread but I didn't want to read the entire thing!

Hey Fallkniven, the setup does allow diagonal sleep. Sorry for not making that clearer!

I think this has some potential as a simple shelter for the back yard. This way I would't have to set up the tarp each time. My only thought is that this would have been way better if they had sewed on a tarp-wing? to the entry part to block a little rain. With a couple trekking poles and some guy lines I think that would work well.

So it looks like this thread was just recently revived after over a year of dormancy...

I read the whole thing, am mildly intrigued by the concept, but checked their website and it does not appear they actually have a product available yet?

If you scroll down to the timeline it says "Fulfillment Jan 2018" so we should be seeing them on the trail any day now.

They've got $94,000 of other people's money, so.......

Looks like they posted an update on 4/10. It's delayed, but they seem to be moving forward with manufacturers.

    Question

The last email that Casey, one of the owners ,sent me said that due to the almost complete and total redesign, they should be ready in either mid July - early August. He said that the feed back they got here is what made them decide to change so many things and make others better. Personally, I kinda like the idea. Sure it might have it's down sides, but I don't think it's designed with the type of hanging most of us do in mind anyway. We'll see I guess... maybe they really did fix everything. Time will ultimately tell though. I think that while they prolly won't sell very many to HF members, they will prolly end up selling quite a few to the more casual / new hanger, collage students etc. When I get my test SHEL, I'll do an honest and in depth video review for everyone.
