Other then the obvious.....bug-net,to get a consistent hang.
The reason i ask is i was reading in another thread where a few of the posters were claiming that every hammock should have a ridgeline for a more comfortable hang.
I've never used a ridgeline,just eyeball the sag and hop in.
What am i missing?
Nothing. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Some just find the structural ridgeline convenient, consistent and easy.

Something I noticed last night while in my Switchback... As you move around.... If you place more weight on the foot end, the head end lifts up and vice versa. I realize this is inherent to hammocks whether you have a RL or not.
In my traveler with the RL, that doesnt occur, or I should say it acts like a shock absorber. It helps eliminate the see-saw movement. IMO.
Also... It does allow you to set-up with the same hang every time. Your ideal, most comfortable sag may only have a window of .5 inches. With the RL, you hit it every time you set up. Without it, you may have to get in and out several times to make adjustments.
The ridgeline also gives you additional benefits in that you can hang gear pockets off of them for storage of things you might want inside you hammock.
Ie places for a flashlight, water, store your glasses, iPod, etc.
It can also act as a clothes line for hanging thing on to dry.
You did hit on the 2 primary benefits with the consistent hang and to support your bug net.

Other then the things you already said bug-netting and to get a consistent hang, I like to have a few small pocket hanging on my ridge line for easy access to things you might want in the middle of the night, I can hang my headlamp from the ridge line as well.
I don't know why the poster said "every hammock should have a ridgeline for a more comfortable hang", you don't 'need' one but I think they are nice.

I hold on to mine when I change my clothes .... gives me a wee bit of stability as I bounce around with my sock caught up in my long-johns.......
