OK - Favorite places to hang and/or backpack

If you want to travel a bit, my favorite place is Wilderness Trail Loop at Meramec State Park. I hope to get up that way in March. It’s about 4 hours from Joplin, so probably 6 or so hours for you.

Okay, so what is the closest town to Meramec? I'm going to have to put that one on my list as well. Gotta go check out the details!

Sullivan is probably the closest decent sized town. North of Rolla, MO off I-44. We had a HF hang there last year and it was a blast. Pretty easy trail with several springs and caves. Around an 8 mile loop for a relaxing two day hike. I’ll post that date as it gets a little closer.

You might like Bell Mountain Loop too. It’s on/near the OT. Had a HF hang there two weeks ago, we had a great time and great turn out as well. It’s fairly close to Meramec. You have to pack your water to the top since there is none, only down side for me.
