Hello from a new Hammock Camper on the Georgia Coast!

    Hello all!

I became intrigued with hammock camping while on a short backpacking trip to Roan Highlands last month. Over the last month, I have learned a lot from the folks on this board and various youtube videos (Thanks Shug and others). Anyway, I ordered a DutchWare Chameleon with a bugnet (absolute necessity in my area) and a JRB tarp. The hammock arrived Thursday and I spent Friday night testing it in the back yard. I was surprised how well I slept considering it was warm and humid and all of the neighborhood noise. It went so well, I gave it another night and I even 'slept in' the second day. I think this could be that start of something good! I hope to be able to use the setup for kayak camping and backpacking. Great community here and a wealth of knowledge - Thanks for letting me be a part!

    Kerry

Welcome from Northern Arkansas! The start of something good, the beginning of a long relationship, the opening of the rabbit hole, hammocks can be all of those! Enjoy the hang! Great setup!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! As for trips to break in the hammock, a couple of possibilities: An overnight kayak camping trip to Little Tybee once the weather is a little colder (and bugs are waning) is high on the list. Also, I may get a chance to use it at Thankgiving, as my wife's family gets together on a family farm in Middle Georgia with RV camping, music and singing in their old barn. I have a couple of trips planned to Cumberland Island in October and November but those will most likely be tent camping because I will have other family with me and they have not discovered hammock camping yet

Thanks! I have already purchased a few accesories from Dutch. I had decided on a WB Blackbird XLC but they were temporarily unavailable due to a fabric supplier issue. I just could not wait any longer, so I purchased the Chameleon. I like the modular design and that I can add features as needed. I would still like to pick up a WB Blackbird XLC at some point so that I can have a second setup for friends or family to join me (I have been watching the 'for sale' section of this forum).

Welcome from the Lake Oconee area of Georgia. Hope you guys down on the coast come through the current hurricane impact OK. Radar maps are looking scary.

With Irma tracking west of us, looks like we may escape the worst of it. We do have some potential for severe weather (heavy rain, wind and possible tornados) through tomorrow. My thoughts go out to all those who have evacuated and those who are staying put to weather the storm. Irma is a monster.

Lake Oconee is a great area. My parents have a place on Lake Sinclair. Maybe we will get the chance to meet someday! BTW are there any upcoming hangs/events in Georgia?
