    BWCA trip into Disappointment Lake.

I took a group of Boy Scouts into the BWCA canoeing this past weekend on a Friday-Sunday trip.. The weather forecasted rain Saturday into Sunday and held true. It's not Scouting unless it's raining.. We ate stayed dry, laugh joked and had a great time.. My daughter taught a few scouts how to catch/cook crawdads, not to mention fish. We ate well..

Sense I was lead, and we room for an extra body, I brought my 13 y/o daughter with as she had not been in the BWCA and heard its a great time form her brother.. Fate being what it was, he brother broke his arm last month and I had to scratch him from the trip ..

The big excitement was, While paddling out of Disappointment in the rain, I spotted 5 hikers walking the shoreline in knee deep + water. Thinking something was hinky we swung over to see what was afoot. Turns out that they "Didn't get the Memo" that the trail was buried under a huge blow down we got in 2016.

After we were out, I called and spoke with the Ranger Station in Ely on Monday having a conversation that lasted about 30 minutes. I passed on what happened; my thoughts as to what transpired and what can be done to mitigate it from occurring in the future… There have already been some changes made. Prior to my phone call, the trail was listed as OPEN https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/m...snowbank-trail that has now been changed. I’m also sure that the posted TRAIL CLOSED signs on sight will be updated with bilingual signs most Ricky Ticky. As to if the crew I ran into had BWCA permits in hand, I have no idea, however I’m sure that was being looked into post haste, if so I’m sure they were contacted.

    Whats a story without Pics..

    Frost on the way in.

Thanks for posting that, really good intel to know it's closed. I was on it May of last year and it was clear so I've been unable to give people a yay or nay on how it fared after the windstorm. Such a great trail I hope that they are able to get out and get it cleared or run a couple of volunteer trips for clearing.

    That beer refreshing...

They used to brew that at the Olympia brewery near me. I miss the smell of hops that used to waft across interstate 5.
