    My latest UQ project

Full size UQ made from SnugPak Jungle Blanket (not folded in half). Snap in Insul-Bright liner for cooler temps. Clew suspension.

Slept in it last night with a modified mummy sleeping bag top quilt. Low temp was 42 F with a light breeze. No cold spots, full coverage, very toasty.

Looks good. I've been looking to clewify a snugpak blanket but just haven't gotten around to it. Please update the thread if you take it to lower temperatures.

Thanks. Will definitely be taking it to lower temps....camping season is just starting. :-)

Might add a Costco throw snap in layer for the below 20 F stuff.

I've got a jungle blanket, and I'm thinking I will probably make a variation on the Gemini underquilt with it.

What is the blanket that you snapped in? I don't think I've seen or heard of it, and I'm not sure how much insulation it's adding to the jungle blanket. I just know I've used my jungle blanket alone as a top quilt, and I don't know if id trust it past 40f, so I'm curious about what you added to it.

The material snapped in is called Insul Bright, it can be purchased in fabric stores and online at places like Amazon. It actually adds quite a bit of insulation.

It's perforated Mylar sandwiched between two layers of poly batting. Since the Mylar is needle perforated the material breathes but offers good insulating value. It's primarily used to make oven mitts and things like that.

Machine washable and not terribly heavy either.

It's similar to Insultex (but IX does not have the mylar layer)

Thanks for the responses everyone, that really helps answer my question .

At this point, I think I'll start by making a gemeni setup, with the jungle blanket as the exterior layer (its pretty wind/water resistant), and my one costco down throw as the folded over inner layer. I'll keep this in mind if I need to increase the rating though.

the nice thing with the gemini style, is that you could just carry the extra insul bright layer and lay it inside the folder over inner layer with no snaps or sewing. the CDT would just hold it in place, np

and just not bother carrying it in slightly warmer weather

actually.........you might even be able to get away with just carrying a mylar/space blanket to put inside the inner blanket for almost 0 weight and bulk penalty
