Mars Hill, NC hang (planning stages)

So, I've mentioned it in other threads, but . . . I'd like to have a group hang at my place in WNC.

I've got 253 acres, right off of the AT, near Sam's Gap.

I'm thinking of mid to late March, maybe early April.

    Any thoughts on this?

And what would a group want provided, besides trees?

I need to scout out a place on the property to focus my energy on: clean up the undergrowth, remove deadfalls, etc. etc.

Day hikes along the AT are easy . . . and a trip to the abandoned boys' camp just off the trail is also an easy trip.

    So . . . I think day-time activities are pretty well covered.

But for a hanging site-- is there a preference for a ridge site or a valley/creek site? Or perhaps just below a ridge?

And FYI, property starts at @3500 ft. elevation and tops out at around 4100 ft.

I was just thinking it would be cool to host a hang on private land. I might be into it. I'll follow this thread.

I've done Sams to Spivey via the AT 18 times-you live in a very special area! I'm following too hoping it works out on my off week.

At that time of year a valley/creek site sounds nice, but I'm not picky. I'm sure either would be nice.
I'd like to try & come if it works out. Thanks for the opportunity!

    Hey Raw,

I'm in! Proximity to a water source might be a factor in site choice. I'd be more than happy to help clean up the undergrowth, remove deadfalls, etc. etc.

I'm in! I've been bugging Raw to visit his place for a while now!

If I can get my wife and kids to come, we'll bring the Scamp. What kind of facilities do you have, Raw? My wife requires a real bathroom, located close to the Scamp.

If I come alone, I'll make it a motorcycle trip.

I'd be interested, sounds great! Hope it doesn't end up being the same weekend as Ed's Hot Springs hangout though.
