DIY Hammock-Hyper D 1.6 with removable bug net

I was a long time Blackbird user but had a chance to 'sample' an 11' hammock in HyperD and knew that was my next step. Thanks to Sqidmark for letting me sample his various hammocks!! I had no idea I preferred a left hand lay until I tried it.

Picked up the extra size, removable net and symmetric versatility and shaved a few ounces.

Specs are simple. Eleven foot, standard width, symmetrical hammock in blaze orang 1.6 HyperD from RBTR. Dual side pullouts; interior pickup points for peak shelf, to be added later; Zingit ARL. Add a fully removable 0.67 noseeum bug net.

Sent from somewhere east of Montauk...
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

So you have been using a head left / feet right hammock and then suddenly find that the other way feels better? Interesting. I thought you kind of get used to one direction.

But the hammock in the picture looks like the net is cut for a head left / feet right direction. Is this an optical illusion?

I suspect he's using Dutch's reversible zipper and can flip the netting over as can be done on the Chameleon.

Nope. It's modified zippers ala tackblades. Think raven.

    Yeah, so here's the deal...

The hammock is symmetric and yes, after years of head left, feet right in a standard Blackbird I have discovered I prefer the other direction. Truth told, I love that I can switch and will, at times, still lay the old way.

I made the hammock with dual side pullouts... head and foot, left and right. When time came to add the bug net, it requires that the hammock be hung inside out so the net can be pinned in place (I used clips.. a lot of clips). As a rookie DIY'r I didn't account for the fact that once I turned the hammock right side out, the pullout position was going to be backwards. So yes, as it stands (hangs) now it is a dedicated hang in the wrong direction. I am making another bug net that accommodates all four pullout points so I can be fully reversible in how I lay, ala Raven or Chameleon.

Zipper is standard #3 coil modified in the same manner Tacblades does them. Works awesome. Fully removable and, ultimately, reversible if needed.
