It’s been 18 years since my 7th grade Home-Ec class. 18 years since that stupid assignment where we had to use a sewing machine to make a textbook cover with a pocket for a calculator on the front. It’s been 18 years since my teacher told me I had to redo said assignment when she pointed out that the pattern on the calculator pocket was upside-down. 18 years since my 7th grade punk self refused to redo it, saying I would just take the “F” on the assignment because it wasn’t like I would ever use a sewing machine again...
And here we are...18 years later...and I interrupted my wife’s viewing of The Walking Dead to ask if she could help me get the sewing machine set up because I desperately wanted to learn and practice my stitches before taking on my DIY hammock.
It may have taken 18 years, but you finally got me, Universe. I made one little stitch using that sewing machine, and I felt instant gratification. Message received. I now see the err of my ways.
