    In praise of the RidgeRunner!

I've been playing with one of my RR's again, and I gotta say that each and every time that I get into it, I just marvel at the superb engineering/design work that went into this hammock. I just love these things!

I design products that interface with the human body for a living, and I can easily see that there's a subtle genius to Brandon's work. This hammock is the only consumer product that I can think of that I would not want to modify anything about it. Just out of the box it's perfect - and I'm as OCD about gear as anyone I've ever met. (Having said that, a scaled up larger version would make me a very happy camper )

After using close to a dozen GE hammocks unsuccessfully, I almost went back to the ground. I lurked here for well over a year before joining, and the testimonials by others made me give the RR a try before giving up & becoming a "grounder". I'm glad that I did.

Thank you to all who helped me make that decision.

+1. Just sold my last two gathered end hammocks. It's the RR for me from now on, exclusively.

I think the "subtle genius" has its roots in the ultralight mindset. It's a way of really looking at things and saying, "Is this really needed?" Trimming excess away until everything left contributes in an essential way to the chosen level of comfort and the chosen amount of convenience.

I guess the true genius (the patentable part) was the attachment of the netting to the saddlebags instead of the hammock body, thus preventing any bug-net stress.

I've also noticed the gentle curve that supports my thighs when the hammock is hung right. Bliss.

Yes, at least near perfect! My every night hammock about 10 months of the year. The urge to use one of my GE hammocks gets to me occasionaly.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

I keep trying gathered end hammocks for the weight savings but I keep coming back to my trusty ol' Ridgerunner as my go to hammock. I'm wondering when Brandon is going to make some changes to this hammock as he's just made a few to the Blackbird.

I know we've had discussions on what could possibly be done to the Ridgerunner to improve it. What are you thinking could be done?

Slightly longer version. I'm 6'2" and at its max. I touch both ends. XL

And the curve of those saddlebags...it's almost sensual.

I'm also 6'2" and agree there's not a lot of extra room, although I don't feel I'm touching both ends. It's just right for me. I don't feel there's really any extra material like in a gathered end style.

My suggestion would be to leave the RR design exactly as it currently is and keep it in production. Then scale it up about 20% in size and make an XL model with heavier material giving it a 300# capacity. The design is perfect imo....

If you like the RR...wait till you try the Townsend Luxury Bridge. Made for us full figured fellas. I still like my RR, but it is a bit tight in the waist area for me. Plus warbonnet is so Mainstream these days!
