    Piebald,

Correction they are listed as Genova Insert Plugs ($0.66). Lowes: Item # 54540 Model # 351827 These will keep the dirt from plugging the end of the poles.
    Attachment 168783

Smart design sometimes comes through dumb luck . Most people want to cut at the mid point on the pole, however, for this design that would place the weakest joint at the highest load point.

Ah bummer, I just drove through that area on our way back north to Seattle from San Francisco.

Was it just the connector that failed? Have you had success with any other connectors?

I'm interested to see the finished product. I can make my Kelty Noah 12 work, but it is lacking tension on the ridge. I don't think it would do well in a severe storm.

Simplest hack is just to choke up excess and pull it over the little V where the poles cross, tension to ground or with a weight. Others report prying stand open to 12’ and change with head guyline, which makes me a little nervous about (unknown) effect on load rating, but so far so good.

My RSBTR 12' works great with the tarp extensions. Your Kelty should also.

Hey, what do you have for suspension on your XLC? I'm running whoopie but when I get a Tensa4 I need to figure out how to connect it right!

I have whoopies - larks head to whipped ends

I just put the loop around the pole and shorten it up as much as needed and if more then just wrap like figure 8 around poles as needed

    Easy peazy

The tarp use will not absolutely need the tarp pole mods but IMo everyone will want them for tarps!!
