Jdy98p - great job there. Thanks so much for the report, it looks like you found an affordable way to make this portable.

Now I have to dig through this whole post to find that link again.

    Just to show that I'm not all talk, here is the stand I built this week;

I used 8 1/2' lengths which means I splay the base a little wider. I like it like that.

Well, fairly affordable. The connectors were roughly the cost of two EMT poles each ($9). But not too bad.

Also, you can’t see it in my pics, but I did number each end of the connectors and the EMT so that the 1’s go together, 2’s together, etc up to 8’s. Makes putting it back together easier once you have the configuration you like.

Looks like you've paid careful attention to all the posts here, and it paid off. I have two questions, though. You want tension on the "stabilizer anchor". It will never be much compared to the forces on the rest of the suspension, so keep your butt toward the head end. Second question: what's with the 2nd pic showing you bending the ridgeline? That's a useful test when using the non-structural ridgeline with the WB Blackbird and similar hammocks when hung from trees. Doesn't apply here. Your stand configuration may be such that the hammock ridgeline is pushed to maximum tension, or it may not. (I favor having it taut, since it sets the hammock's hang angle.) There isn't any "correct" halfway position. You correctly jettison the stand ridgeline after initial experimentation. That's smart.

Also, while I posted one pic of a connector above, it appears I have two each of slightly different connectors. One type is smooth and the other does have a middle waistline to stop the pipes midway.

What ended up being an issue was my use of a kettlebell for the anchor end. Pro Tip: don’t do that. Ended up tipping down that way when I tried to stabilze and with low-ish ceiling in my basement I made...a bit of a dent.

Also, though I’m not sure if the reason was due to the ceiling stopping me or the pipe not holding my 200 lbs (or some combination), one 4’ pole bent slightly. I gently bent it back and (while probably ill-advised) I’ll try using it again.

The connectors appear to have done *very* well, but I haven’t really tested them. I’ll take the rig out on the deck or front yard this weekend. I’d do it tomorrow, but northern VA decided to snow on the first day of spring.

    Just ordered these
Are you still happy with them?
I needed a way to break down to 48 in max for car portability
I’ve made the wooden version and I love it now I want it in my car
Also I weigh 180 but my son weighs 300 wonder what the limit is although my wooden 2x 2 version held him kinda barely

I'm happy with them, but no idea on the weight limit. I weigh about 205, but I think you're looking more at the EMT limit than the connector limits for your son.

You could take a connector into Lowes or HD and see if the 3/4 galvanized pipe fits. That would get you better strength at a weight cost.

I found that the 7/8 caps fit perfectly. I also used the coated cable as connectors. I happen to have about 50' of it from a zipline the kids no longer use.

I didn't smooth out the holes I drilled and the coating is coming off the cable from use. The cable itself is still fine. Since I have so much I will probably re-do them.

Any reason not to use eyebolts instead?
Bought the cable and connectors but am debating returning them and using bolts instead
The cable connectors say to not use to support people
I’m using bolts on my wooden version. And there working great
