3/4" emt conduit with 220lbs in it. I used steel cable to hold the conduit together.
    Parts:
4x 3/4 conduit cut to 95" (fits in my 8' bed truck) $4.25 ea
    4x 1' $.36 per foot
    4x cable clamps $.63 ea.

    Total cost $21

That's awesome daneaustin3! I love the simplicity: the play in the cable connectors surely lets you fold it up faster than an umbrella without stressing anything, nothing to get lost, but plenty strong. You sure you can't come up with a way to make it any more expensive or complicated though?

In the bicycle world, a hack to get you home if your tire casing fails is a boot made from a dollar bill. I joke sometimes that if it's a really bad tear you might have to use a $5 or even $10. I think your stand here is the $1 version, sort of a challenge for anybody to come up with a simpler cheaper way, using new materials at least.

The lay looks spot-on too. No way it's going to tip footward with your body where it is. I like how this design, when tethered only foot end, basically enforces proper sag and orientation in the hammock for flattest lay, which in combination with the cost-accessibility and easy setup can help a lot of new hangers avoid common problems. Just because your ridgeline, physical or virtual, isn't horizontal doesn't mean your body won't be!

Tip for folding to keep everything tidy: if your ridgeline is part of the stand rather than of the hammock (can be redundant), and you arrange for the sum of half the ridgeline and half the base strap lengths to equal the pole length, you can join the midpoints of ridgeline and base strap as with a carabiner to cause the stand to fold up upon itself tidily.

If I were to look into making that more expensive or complicated, I might play with this:

That’s awesome! Quick question: can you take a picture of how the bottom joints are connected and lay out?
