I was thinking about the forum having a section that only contained patterns that people could look at for their DIY projects and was wondering if it would help DIYers? To find patterns you have to search all the threads and it might be nice to have a place that is simply patterns. No threads for discussion or anything, just patterns.
Am I off my rocker or does this seem like a good idea?

I agree aswell! I search the heck out of this site to find a few. It would be alot easier to search a dedicated thread. There are alot of good ideas people have here and sharing them would be a home run.

However - there is already an Articles page that does just what you're asking for. Look to the left and click the DIY section of them, lots of plans for building your own gear there.
That may be the best place to add new gear patterns and how-to's. (just don't post things there until your how-to is nice and clean)

I don't think a pattern section would be a bad idea, but I don't know if there is enough of them floating around to warrant their own forum. Most tutorials include dimensions and such that one can use to make their own pattern. I normally transfer dimension to a piece of Tyvek to create a pretty durable and reusable pattern. And a most projects that might require a pattern would be too large to be easily printed out.

I am planning on putting a few patterns out there. Once I get all of designs tweaked and on paper along with some good directions I will do just that. That takes a lot of time to do and that is the one thing I do not have much of these days.
Making clear directions that indicate where to put so many darts and tucks is quite the chore...

I'd vote for using the Articles section, because most patterns will have some associated why/how to discussion. Just tag the post with "pattern", as appropriate.

Sometimes, all the discussion can make the application "fuzzy" or hard to understand. I'm thinking a pattern makes DIY more straight forward.
