    AZ > Showers Point CG > April 27-29 2018 - Spring Hang

Note: I will continue to edit/update this first post with the current status of the hang so you don't have to scan down the thread.

I just got back from checking out the group campsites on Mt Lemmon in the Santa Catalina Mtns just North of Tucson and the Showers Point CG is by far the best. There are 3 group sites, each can accommodate 25 campers, with ramada, picnic tables and fireplace. Tons of Ponderosa Pines to hang from. Only problem is parking - I think if we get over a dozen or so vehicles at a time we could have issues. Cost is $82/night/site, so if we have 10 people it'll be about $16/person for the weekend.

I have picked the April 27-29 dates because they selfishly work best for me, sandwiched in between my return from Yellowstone and my wedding anniversary My guess is we are planning this far enough out that most folks shouldn't be too booked up.

I went ahead and reserved/paid for the site. Total is $174 - we can figure out each person's contribution when we see how many show up!

Here's a picture of Ramada #3 which I think is the best site and the one I reserved.

Let me know if you plan to be there.

Here's the Google Maps location: https://goo.gl/maps/WV1CRdLmZqL2

Note that the Catalina Highway speed limit is 35 MPH, and our campsite is at roughly mile marker 20, just before the Visitor Center. It is all paved, but windy with lots of switchbacks so factor this in to your drive time estimates. If you are on a motorcycle or convertible, it is a phenomenal drive.

Good point about early arrivals. There are tons of other CG's on Mt Lemmon where you wouldn't have to pay for a group site. Or, since it is NF land, you could just hike up a trail and camp for free.

Sounds like fun to me! I'm in. Fortunately, my motorcycle doesn't take up much space. Thanks Kurt!

The world would be a lot less grumpy if we all slept in hammocks.

I will have a week long section hike in April, but will put this date on my calendar and try to plan around it.
