Can you answer a couple of questions for me?

Is duck down available in anything other than 800fp?

If they perform exactly the same, it seems to me goose is usually a little more expensive. Maybe related to harvesting practices, availability, etc. Not sure.

Just curious if the one-to-one comparison applies all the way up the scale in regards to fill power.

For example, if you had an option of Duck v Goose down in 900fp, would they perform exactly the same and would there be a difference in cost between the two?

I know you've got vast experience with all manner of down quilts.

    Thanks, Cabman
I don't think you can find 900 duck. Several links online say that mature geese, being larger birds than ducks, will have larger down plumes, with the larger down clusters being more durable, resilient, and resulting in higher fill power...850, 900 etc.

It sounds like the cost difference is from the goose down being slightly higher quality and less common (ducks being more popular to eat than geese)

    Fill power

I do wonder just how much smaller the 900 packs down to compared to 800 and 850. Does anyone know a percentage difference between the compressed volumes of same style and rated quilts? The ounce or two isn’t as big of a deal as the idea of being able to use a smaller pack that would possibly shave even more and carry nicer.
