    What are these things at the peak of a hammock?

    ...these flaps of material that create a little enclosed space at the gathered end. What's the purpose?

    What are these things at the peak of a hammock?

    The zippers that slide up leave a small gap at the top of the hammock. Those cover that gap.

    I've made a few hammocks now. If you DON'T do this you can't really continue the zipper all the way around. These triangles help with the zippers curve for smooth operation. Although it looks to me like your zipper goes under the peak. Is that the foot end?
